Beetlejuice is a 1988 comedic horror film by Tim Burton. It follows Adam and Barbara Maitland, a recently deceased couple now confined to their home as ghosts, as they hire Beetlejuice, a chaotic bio-exorcist ghost with the promise to drive out the living Deetz family who have just moved in.
The movie gained instant popularity, garnering $80 million in the box office, serving as one of Tim Burton's 'big breaks'. In 1989, Beetlejuice received a cartoon adaptation, and by 1991, that expanded to both a toy line and a comic book line.
Over time, Beetlejuice has become a cult classic, earning itself a Broadway musical of the same name in 2018, and a sequel titled ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ in 2024.
